Protect California Small Businesses and Consumers from Unfair Bank Fees
Californians agree—the cost of living is too high!
California businesses are required to collect, account for, and remit sales taxes at no cost. But current laws allow credit card companies to add additional “swipe fee” charges to businesses and customers on the collection of taxes and tips.
Credit card companies are making additional profits from the tax and tip portion of the receipt. These costs often get passed on in the form of higher consumer prices, directly contributing to the high cost of living and inflation with the American family paying about $1,100 per year in swipe fees.
Put simply: California’s small businesses and consumers should not be subsidizing Wall Street.
Assembly Bill 1065, would protect small businesses and consumers from inflated prices by prohibiting credit card companies and banks from charging the hidden swipe fees on taxes and tips.
